Support Bethany Home in honour of Mandela

Feel you need to do a bit more to honour former South African President Nelson Mandela but at a loss for ideas?

Why not support the I Love Kensington Association (Ilka) in its plans to brighten Bethany Home in Bertams?

The Bethany Home is a place that assists abused women and children. It serves as a “safe home” until women and children are able to support themselves and their families without having to return to an abusive relationship.

The Ilka team will go to the home on August 2 to paint a room as part of the 67 minutes for Mandela initiative.

“The reason we are doing this on the first Saturday of August is to ask the community to donate items for the home. We are approaching the local schools to assist us in this and we decided to have the entire Kensington community come together instead of just a handful of people,” said Mrs Lornette Joseph, the chairperson of Ilka.

Mr Richard Francis, the head of charity for Ilka, said the home is in need of basic, day-to-day products and groceries.

The home is in need of toiletries, disposable nappies, towel nappies, baby formula, Nan 2, Lactogen 2, Nespray, wet wipes, nappy cream, baby Panado, baby foods like Nestum or Cerelac porridge and Purity, general household cleaning materials and non-perishable food items.

“We are also looking for anyone who would like to donate some PVA paint for a bedroom at the home,” said Mr Francis.

“Ilka asks all residents and businesses to help by donating just one item. We are arranging drop-off points and will keep people up to date on our website,” said Mrs Joseph.
