I was a victim of a smash-and-grab on the Barbara Road Bridge

"On the night of July 16, we witnessed another smash-and-grab take place in this area."

“I was a victim of a smash-and-grab on the Barbara Road Bridge at the on-ramp area from the R21 heading towards the airport.”

These are the words of Ms Lisa Selli, an Edenglen resident who expressed concerns about the crime that takes place on the Barbara Road bridge at the on-ramp area.

“On the night of July 16, we witnessed another smash-and-grab take place in this area. The criminal was so brazen he stared straight at us and didn’t even run,” said Ms Selli.

“We had the opportunity to run him over but we were afraid we would be taken to court for attempted murder. Criminals seem to have more rights than we do,” said Ms Selli.

“We considered jumping out and apprehending him but we didn’t know how many of his knife-wielding buddies were waiting in the adjacent veld or the highway underpass. So we were powerless and just drive off,” said Ms Selli.

On Wednesday, June 24, the Bedfordview SAPS retrieved a hijacked truck after an armed robbery took place near the Barbara Road bridge.

Ms Selli challenged the police in Sebenza and Edenvale to tackle the on-going crime.

“These criminals sit day after day in the veld making fires and rubbish piles. They live off breaking people’s windows and stealing whatever they can grab,” said Ms Selli. @BedfordJourno
