Children share poetry

Children from the Proud Community Youth Development project met on July 5 to share their poems with each other.

Mrs Faradiba Morton, one of the founders of the project, published in the Joburg East Express under the Poetry Empowers banner, said the day was filled with art and inspiration.

“One thing I am certain of is that I know God is shining his light on these children. They are so blessed. Everyone who meets them feels the glow,” she said.

In support of the project, the EXPRESS publishes poems written by the children once a month.

For more information on the project, contact Ms Morton on 074 330 1587.

Below are some of the poems:

My simile poem about Mrs Faradiba

By Jermaine Gosiame Lekgetho

You are as caring as Nelson Mandela was towards kids,

You are as creative as a mom can be,

You are as colourful as a rainbow,

You are as bright as the stars in the sky,

You make us feel as happy as a baby taking its very first steps,

And you are as loyal as a servant towards a Queen!

Who is she?

By Eva Khosi Zulu

She came from nowhere

Beautiful at heart, adorable and kind

Her smile so bright and colourful like a rainbow that beams through my bright future lines

She came to make a difference

To heal the grieving heart of the young minds

To inspire and explore the eager minds

The minute she enters the room

The human brain intertwines to free the words of wisdom

The words of encouragement

With the words of love

The words that free themselves from the heart

Through the mouth to the soul

Her sweet words rhyme like a melody through my ears saying

Free your spirit! Free your mind!

Be yourself! Don’t be shy!

You are special! You can make it!

Who is she? My heroine,

My hope, my mentor, my poetry teacher

Don’t give up; don’t give in

By Nosipho Majola

It’s all in the Lord’s hands

No matter what you are faced with

He is the one who will help you

In any situation in any way

He is the beginning and the end

So put your total trust in God.

He knows pain He is your gain

He knows your struggles and your sorrows

And he will help you to reign

Know that the Lord has His own time

Everything is possible if you believe

With God you can achieve

If you put your total trust in the lord

Don’t give up, don’t give in

It’s all in the lords hands.

With Him you can win

The way forward

By Nicole Gassi

There are my great leaders that started out as nothing;

They were a face in the crowd.

A shadow in the greatness of others wealth, success and legacy did not imply fall into these men and women’s lives.

They earned it, they worked hard for it, and they made it happen.

There are many great leaders, perhaps Oprah Winfrey is a true example of this Perhaps you are thinking it is really easy to tell me to move forward but, how do I do it.

Moving forward is a choice when challenges strike you, you should strike back.

It is easy to dig a hole sit there and through yourself a planned party, poor little old me.

It is only when you start moving forward when you see healing in you future.

The way forward is like a car, you will never see it’s weaknesses and strengths until it starts moving forward and if breaks down there are always other cars who can tow it for a mechanic service.

So I suggest that you down your new foundation which is moving forward improve your own quality of life for you should remember that you are special.

Sovereign and have the potential not to be stuck in a situation or challenge because I know I had to move forward I have to start a new foundation on a rocky pattern because some teachers are tough and metrics are bossy and the framework is like an idle wave that drowns me.

But I decide to move forward, so are you going to do the same or be a car that has wheels but they are flat?

I love school

By Seychelle

I love school so much even if I am eight

I enjoy learning at school, I love it so much

I enjoy it because it is fun

My schools name is Hillcrest

I love my class teacher she is so nice

I love playing with my friends at school

My class teachers name is Miss Mkize

I love school because I will become educated

And I love people because they make me smile.

The feeling of getting lost in a book

By Dearshney

The feeling of getting lost in a book,

It makes me forget about my very bad looks

Sometimes I want to read all day

But I have to go to school to learn and play.

When I read my heart makes me see

How it is to be really me.

I might not be pretty or very cool

But books make me achieve in school.
