Fatherless children receive Father’s Day experience

The event took place at the Faith Centre Assembly in Malvern on Sunday, June 22.

The Daughters of Zion (DOZ) held its third Father’s Day for the fatherless event.

The event took place at the Faith Centre Assembly in Malvern on Sunday, June 22.

Children had fun and received the opportunity to sing and present poems to the fathers in who were in attendance.

For the first time, the event was graced by children from the Delmor informal settlement. The theme for this year’s event was “man of worth”.

Children of all ages attended the event and some shared what the event meant to them.

“I am happy to be a part of this event. It is the first time I said happy father’s day. It was such a wonderful experience,” said 19-year-old Sindi Nkabinde.

Guest speakers included Mr Meshack Kekana, the founder and chairperson of Dads in the Picture, an organisation that is committed to addressing social ills. The organisation took the opportunity to encourage men to get involved in raising their children because of an urgent need for father figures.

Ms Fikile Ngcobo, from the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (NMCF), delivered a speech. She encouraged the DOZ to keep up the good work and not to do this as an event, but to develop it into daily work. @JoburgJourno
