Pupils to stand up

Several events have been planned to entertain the pupils, before, during and after their walk from Horwood’s Farm to Karaglen Shopping Centre.

Pupils from schools around Edenvale plan to close off Baker Road on August 8.

They will use this time to stand up against drug abuse, domestic violence, bullying in schools and human trafficking.

This year’s Tiles4Change march plans to be bigger than last year’s event.

Adding to a demand by community members last year, this year’s march will be open for all to attend.

Several events have been planned to entertain the pupils, before, during and after their walk from Horwood’s Farm to Karaglen Shopping Centre.

At the centre, school pupils will be introduced to the latest edition to Tiles4Chage, a school passport which will help children track their achievements throughout the year.

This campaign aims to have school pupils turn their bad habits to good ones through various initiatives.

The passports will be customised for each school and will include charity work, sports activities and school achievements.

Several key role-players have joined the team behind Tiles4Change to bring the initiative to life.

Former drug addict Mr Lee Kaplan has agreed to work with Tiles4Change to address the schools on the issues surrounding drug abuse.

The Edenvale Rand Road Warriors have joined the team and will work with Tiles4Change in a project which will encourage school pupils to go from the couch to five kilometres.

In October last year, over 800 school pupils marched to Karaglen Shopping Centre with various community role players including the Edenvale SAPS, the NEWS and management from Karaglen Shopping Centre.

At the march children stood up and let their voices be heard against the abuse of drugs in schools and the community at large.

Tiles4Change was started to give children in the Edenvale community a platform from which they could stand up against issued affecting them.

To date over R150 000 has been raised through Tiles4Change.

These funds will be ploughed back into the schools through various anti-drug and social crime prevention strategies.

On August 8, children will leave Horwood’s Farm at around 10am and March to Karaglen Shopping Centre.

After the planned activities children will then march back to Horwood’s Farm.
