Business Workshop held at Yeoville Library

A Business Workshop was held at the Yeoville Library on Wednesday, May 28.

The workshop covered a number of significant aspects of business. The business workshop was opened by Mr Johannes Masenya, Senior Librarian at Yeoville Library. He delivered a paper titled ‘Role of Librarians in promoting and ensuring free access of business information for all’. More than one hundred residents attended the business workshop.

Those in attendance were addressed by City of Johannesburg officials who work in the Finance Department Supply Chain Management Unit, South Africa Revenue Services (SARS), Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP) and a Rosebank College lecturer and business consultant. Young entrepreneurs were afforded the platform to market their businesses to the audience.

The workshop covered complying with tax laws, funding from the GEP, writing a business plan and the procurement framework in the City of Johannesburg.

“They were made aware of the value of business information available in the library and its positive correlation to success of a business,” said Mr Johannes Masenya, Senior Librarian at the Yeoville Library. The mentoring, business incubation and development programmes provided by the City of Johannesburg to the appointed contractors to acquire skills were discussed in detail. Officials from the City of Johannesburg appealed to business owners who have been awarded tenders to comply with labour laws, and more specifically the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Compensation for Occupational Injuries and the Disease Act. The participants shared their challenges within the business environment with speakers and audience.

“The business workshop provides a platform for transferring knowledge amongst entrepreneurs and increasing sustainability, profitability and growth,” said Mr Masenya. @JoburgJourno
