Keep surveilence data safe

Investigating officers are finding that in some house burglaries, the modems containing the footage from the surveillance cameras is being stolen as well

Criminals are now stealing the recordings of surveillance footage, which is hampering police investigations.

According to the Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, investigating officers are facing a new challenge when investigating house burglaries in the Bedfordview area.

“Residents who have surveillance videos should place the modem recording the footage in a safe area which is inaccessible to criminals.

Investigating officers are finding that in some house burglaries, the modems containing the footage from the surveillance cameras is being stolen as well,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

“Stolen data footage creates a setback for the investigating officers because it is possible evidence for the police investigation. It is advisable for residents to keep the recorded surveillance footage in a safe place, or have a backup modem that saves the footage,” said Sgt Nhlabati. @BedfordJourno
