Domestic worker arrested for robbery

A domestic worker was arrested in connection with a robbery that took place on May 15 in Cumberland Road, Kensington.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said a resident alleged he was awoken from his sleep by a loud noise in his room.

“He saw three suspects in possession of firearms. They demanded money. He was assaulted with a firearm until he showed them where the money was,” said Const Mashakane.

The men took a large sum of cash, jewellery and a cellular phone. They fled the scene in the resident’s Mercedes Benz.

The vehicle was recovered later that day by police officers in Montagu Street, Kensington.

Following investigations, a domestic worker aged 23, was arrested in connection with the incident.
