Neighbours Market to take place

The first Neighbours Market is set to take place on June 1 and everyone is invited.

The event, previously known as the Kensington Market and now under new management, will feature various arts, crafts and food stalls as well as live music.

Ms Doreen Fosse explained the reason for the change, “We felt it would be great to include neighbouring suburbs in our market and offer a variety to everyone. We want all our neighbours to feel welcome so we decided to change the name to the Neighbours Market. We hope this will bring more feet to the market and will encourage locals to support local.”

Mrs Lornette Joseph, the chairperson of the I Love Kensington Association (Ilka), said the organisation is a proud supporter of the new Neighbours Market.

“We look forward to a long relationship with the new team. We are excited and cannot wait to see what is on offer. The idea that the market is getting a ‘facelift’ and some new stalls encompassing our fellow neighbours is a lovely initiative and we stand firmly behind the team.”

Ms Wendy Nxayi, one of the organisers said, “We are bringing in new stall owners. We want to launch the new management team and we are looking forward to meeting new faces. Free parking is available to visitors of the market.”

The market will take place at the Rhodes Park Community Centre in Kensington from 10am to 4pm.

After June 1, the event will continue taking place on the first Sunday of every month. Entrance is free.

For more information, or to book a stall, contact Ms Nxayi at wendynxayi@gmail.com or Ms Fosse at doreenfosse@hotmail.com

“Please come down to the market and tell us what you like and do not like, as well as what you would like to see more of. This market is for everyone,” said Ms Nxayi.
