Several teams worked through the night to clear the damage and by this morning, May 16 an engineer approved the store for trade.
Three people sustained injuries when a portion of the ceiling inside the Karaglen SuperSpar in Edenvale collapsed yesterday.
Last night, management from Karaglen SuperSpar confirmed that the collapse was not structural.
In a statement released on the store’s Facebook page, Mr Harry Karamichael thanked paramedics from Emer-G-Med, emergency services personnel from the Edenvale Fire Department, Chaplain Vaughn Grantham and officers and management from the Edenvale SAPS for their assistance.
“One of our regular customers was injured when the ceiling collapsed. We are following up on his progress and wish him all the best for his recovery,” said Mr Karamichael.

I was inside Karaglen Superspar when the ceiling collapsed on Thursday afternoon. Suffice to say it was horrifically frightening, unbelievably scary and dreadfully traumatic. BUT, I want to take this opportunity to salute Harry and his Team. Their management of the incident was incredible, their total focus was on ensuring their staff and customers safety. Most importantly, I absolutely believe that the reason there were no fatalities was as a direct result of the incredible karma Harry has attracted because of the genuine and passionate involvement he has with our community. Harry is deeply committed to making Edenvale a Drug Free Zone, he contributes to a variety of welfare and charity organizations that care for the disadvantaged in our community and he does it with no fanfare nor for personal glory or gain. His commitment is a deep and personal one, one that has changed the lives of, and made a difference to, plenty of the residents in our community. Harry you are a legend, your angels were out in full force on Thursday ensuring there were no fatalities from the ceiling incident!
