Voting goes well in Edenvale

Despite a few minor hiccups on the day, voting in Edenvale ran smoothly.

“Voting for the first time was a special experience.”

These were the words of Edenvale resident, Mr Dale Gower, who chose to make his mark for the first time at the Klopperpark Community Centre on May 7.

He was joined by friends Mr Lukas Van Staden and Ms Monique Morris on the day.

“I never thought I would be the type of person to go out and vote but I love South Africa and I wanted to make my mark and have my voice heard,” said Mr Gower.

Fellow first time voter, Ms Morris was delighted at how simple the process was.

“We were in and out in less than 30 minutes and the officials were friendly and helpful,” she said.

Despite a few minor hiccups on the day, voting in Edenvale ran smoothly.

“One or two stations opened behind schedule but once opened, the lines moved quickly,” said the acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts.

He added that no incidents were reported to police officers and residents casting their votes were well behaved.

As voting finished, residents eagerly followed the counting process.

By Friday morning, the Democratic Alliance had taken the majority of votes in Edenvale followed by the African National Congress.
