Bedfordview election processes a success

The 2014 IEC Election processes in the Bedfordview area on May 7 were successful with no reports of any election-related crimes.

This is according to SAPS Provincial Head Corporate Communication Officer, Brigadier Neville Malila
“No reports emerged from the Bedfordview area of any public violence, intimidation, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault, malicious damage to property, including the unlawful removal of posters and the contravention of various sections of the Electoral Act,” Brigadier Malila said.
According to Brigadier Malila, a big part of this success is attributed to formation of the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure, NATJOINTS, which coordinated all security and law enforcement operations throughout the country.
“We are satisfied that all deployments were placed and that the Bedfordview area’s general election 2014 proceeded smoothly,” said Brigadier Malila.
The departments represented at the National Joint Operational Centre, NATJOC, of the NATJOINTSincluded the South African Police Service, the South African National Defence Force, the National Prosecuting Authority, the Department of Health, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, ESKOM, the Independent Electoral Commission, the Intelligence Coordinating Committee and the Metro Police.
“We are appreciative of the festive and peaceful spirit in which the community of Bedfordview have taken to the polls. We encourage the residents to celebrate in the same peaceful manner post-elections,” added Brigadier Malila.
