Competition leaves Egoli and Village Toastmasters smiling

There was a tie-breaking judging session, which ultimately gave the victory to Egoli Golden City’s Ms Adri Rothman with Bedfordview’s Ms Ann Douglas as runner up.

A Toastmasters contest was held on Wednesday, April 2, for five clubs to battle it out for a spot in the Division 1 contest, which will be held on May 14 at the Benoni Toastmasters Club.

The winner from the division will go through to the District contest, which will be held in Pretoria at the Maxicon conference. The ultimate winner will represent the Southern African region in Kuala Lampur later this year.

The clubs which competed at the area I4 contest included Alberton, Bedfordview, Oasis (who hosted the event), Egoli Golden City and Village Toastmasters.

Tough as the competition was, a winner still needed to be established. There was a tie-breaking judging session, which ultimately gave the victory to Egoli Golden City’s Ms Adri Rothman with Bedfordview’s Ms Ann Douglas as runner up.

Ms Viviane Rozanski from Village Toastmasters, in Edenvale, was awarded first place for her speech evaluation of demonstration speaker Mr Richard Armour’s speech, with Alberton’s Mr Ronnie Martin in second place.

Toastmasters compete twice a year only, with the international speech and evaluation contests taking place in February or March within the various clubs. The humorous and impromptu speeches take place in August. The rest of the year is devoted to self improvement and reaching one’s goals within the framework of the Toastmaster programme.

For further information regarding the programme or any of the clubs within the area, contact the area governor Marcharl Jankowitz on 0798551116.
