Misbehavour on May 7 will not be tolerated

Residents who feel they are being intimidated at a voting station should report the incident to the officers available immediately.

The Edenvale SAPS is ready for the 2014 elections.

“Officers have been briefed and will work with members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) as well as officials from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC),” said the acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts.

He added that officers were not expecting any problems on the day.

“All officers will be at their designated voting stations from 5am until after all the votes have been counted,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He urged residents to take note that under no circumstances will firearms of any nature be allowed at voting stations.

“Residents are allowed to wear their political party t-shirts to their voting station, but once their vote has been cast, they must leave the premises immediately. We will also not tolerate any form of intimidation on the day,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that residents who feel they are being intimidated at a voting station should report the incident to the officers available immediately.

“Each of the 11 voting stations in Edenvale will be manned by two police officers and two EMPD officers, as well as IEC officials at all times. Those caught misbehaving at voting stations will be arrested and charged under the Electoral Act,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that the Act was in place to protect voters.

“Those not complying with the law face harsh penalties under the Act,” he said.
