Eastgate supports Cansa Shavathon

Participants were given the option to colour, spray, shave or gel their hair for a donation. The marketing and communications co-ordinator for Cansa, Ms Esti Lindner, said each year astounding amounts are raised in support of the Shavathon campaign.

R21 826.20 was raised at the 11th annual Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) Shavathon.

The event took place at the Eastgate Shopping Centre recently.

“We are proud to announce a record 218 participants in this year’s campaign, with 50 cancer bracelets and 53 Cansa wraps sold,” said Ms Hester Wasserfall, the centre manager at the Eastgate Shopping Centre.

She said participants were given the option to colour, spray, shave or gel their hair for a donation. The marketing and communications co-ordinator for Cansa, Ms Esti Lindner, said each year astounding amounts are raised in support of the Shavathon campaign.

“We are very thankful for even the smallest donation because every contribution counts in the fight against cancer,” said Ms Lindner.

The Cansa Shavathon annual campaign is one of South Africa’s best supported events, with its purpose being to show solidarity with those affected by cancer. Hair loss is a common side-effect of cancer treatments, hence the symbolic gesture of shaving one’s head in support of cancer survivors. The Eastgate Shopping Centre was awarded with a certificate of appreciation from Cansa for supporting the Cansa Shavathon of 2014.
