18 caught for driving under the influence

He added that any motorist who offers a police official a bribe will face serious charges.

18 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol during a special operation held over the weekend of March 29.

The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) and various security providers assisted in conducting several roadblocks.

“The scary part was the number of motorists who asked officers if a plan could not be made when they realised they faced arrest,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that any motorist who offers a police official a bribe will face serious charges.

“We do not need members of the community instigating bribery or any sort,” said Lt Col Roberts.

Bribery is a serious offence which carries with it a possible term of imprisonment.

“Any member of the community who offers a police officer, or any other law enforcement official, a bribe is just as guilty as the official who takes the bribe. We will not stand for any form of corruption from law enforcement officials or community members,” said Lt Col Roberts.
