Man (35) arrested for firearm negligence

The arrest took place at the corner of Cavendish and Dunbar streets in Yeoville.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested for the pointing of a firearm and the negligent handling thereof.

The arrest took place at the corner of Cavendish and Dunbar streets in Yeoville.

“The police received a complaint about a person who was threatening a passerby on the street with a gun. On arrival, a man carrying a shotgun loaded with live ammunition, was standing on the street corner,” said Constable Thabo Malatji of the Yeoville SAPS.

The officers managed to disarm the suspect and requested his firearm license, which he failed to produce at the time.

“He was taken to Yeoville Police Station where he was detained. His license to possess a firearm was later brought to the station by his next of kin. It was later established that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol,” said Const Malatji.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of pointing a firearm and negligent handling of a firearm.
