Burglars crash stolen vehicle

“One of the men was caught and it was later found the men had stolen the vehicle during a residential burglary in Dunvegan earlier that night,” said Lt Col Roberts.

A man was arrested by the Edenvale SAPS after he crashed a stolen vehicle on Linksfield Road.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday morning, March 22.

Acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts said sector police officers patrolling around Marais Steyn Park noticed four occupants of a vehicle acting suspiciously.

“When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the occupants sped off. During the chase the driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed on Linksfield Road,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that three occupants of the vehicle escaped the scene.

“One of the men was caught and it was later found the men had stolen the vehicle during a residential burglary in Dunvegan earlier that night,” said Lt Col Roberts.

Further investigations determined that the man arrested was the brother of the gardener employed at the house from which the vehicle was stolen.

“Fortunately, the home owners were away for the weekend,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He urged residents who plan on leaving for holidays or a weekend away to make sure they have someone to look after their property at all times.

“Rather hire a trustworthy house-sitter than leave the house unattended while you are away,” he said.

Lt Col Roberts also advised residents to not advertise that they will be away for the weekend or on holiday.

“Make sure that as few people as possible know you will be away. Only disclose this information to trustworthy people,” he said.
