SAPS still looking for bogus cops

Arrests are yet to be made in the case involving a Kensington resident who was allegedly hijacked, kidnapped and robbed by people impersonating police officers.

The EXPRESS reported in the November 7, 2013, edition that a man was allegedly stopped by members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad while driving home on Langermann Drive on November 1, 2013. He alleged that two officers asked to see his driver’s license. The victim was then told he was wanted for a robbery in Sandton.

The victim claims he was subsequently hijacked, kidnapped and robbed by the people he deemed to be police impersonators.

Last week, Constable Mpho Mashakane of the Cleveland SAPS, said the investigations are continuing.

“The investigating officer recently obtained statements from police officers who were on duty that night. His difficulty is in getting hold of the victim. He has been showing little interest in the case and he is needed at this point in the case,” said Const Mashakane.

The EXPRESS made several attempts to obtain comment from the resident, but his phone is switched off.
