A man was a victim of cheque fraud at Eastgate Shopping Centre on March 20.
According to the Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, the man received a text message on his cellular phone informing him of a R22 000 cash withdrawal from his bank account.
The man quickly went to the bank to check what had happened and found that R22 000 was withdrawn by use of a cheque.
“According to the victim, the cheque number used to make the withdrawal was still in his possession, not used and his signature was forged,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.
No arrests have been made and police officers are investigating.
