Rand Aid Association’s substance abuse treatment centre, Wedge Gardens, will host a one-day workshop in May.

The workshop will grapple with a host of issues related to substance abuse. Titled ‘The ABC of addiction’, the workshop is aimed at health professionals but members of the public who are confronted with everyday problems about addiction are also welcome to attend.

The workshop will take place on May 22 at the Tarentaal Village Community Centre situated on the corner of Modderfontein Road and Wordsworth Avenue in Lyndhurst, from 8am until 4pm. Professional therapists will share addiction statistics, discuss the process of addiction, the different classifications of drugs and their effects on the body, the behaviour of an addict, the impact of addiction on family members, whether in- or out-patient treatment is best and if treatment should be voluntary or involuntary.

The workshop costs R600 per person, which includes refreshments and a light lunch. The workshop will be Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accredited. Anyone who would like a registration form can contact Adéle Grobbelaar on 011 430 0320. Completed forms must be received and payment made by May 16.
