Driver survives hijacking

The police received a complaint of a shooting and on arrival, they were informed that a driver of a Toyota Quantum was transporting passengers to work when he realised the road had been blocked with stones.

A man was shot and wounded during an attempted hijacking on Highlands Street in Yeoville.

“The police received a complaint of a shooting and on arrival, they were informed that a driver of a Toyota Quantum was transporting passengers to work when he realised the road had been blocked with stones. One of the passengers exited the vehicle to remove the stones,” said Constable Thabo Malatji of the Yeoville SAPS.

According to Constable Malatji, three men appeared from behind a bush and pointed a firearm at the driver.

“The driver was shot in the right arm and he jumped out, leaving the vehicle with the passengers. The vehicle veered off the road and hit an embankment but all the passengers managed to flee the vehicle while it was moving. They escaped unharmed,” said Const Malatji. The driver was taken to hospital for treatment and a docket for attempted murder was registered.

“Investigations are continuing but no arrests have been made yet,” said Const Malatji.
