EXPRESS’ enquiry gets box secured

A Kensington resident breathed a sigh of relief after an open electricity box was closed and secured by City Power recently.

The EXPRESS published an article last week in which a mother pleaded with authorities to secure an open electricity box in Langermann Drive.

Ms Jo-Anne Robinson said the box, which is located on the back of her fence, was posing a danger to her daughter and hundreds of other residents, which included children from local schools.

She feared a fatality, damage to her property in the event of a fire or criminals switching off the electricity at the box, which powers the entire block, at any time.

According to her, the box had been open for eight months and it was not the first time.

The electricity box was secured soon after the EXPRESS forwarded an enquiry to City Power.

“Officials responded to the EXPRESS and I wonder why they did not respond to us when we complained. However, I thank those who were involved. I think the box is much more secure now and I am at ease. I read and hear all these stories about children getting hurt or dying and I am grateful the electricity box which was posing a danger was fixed,” she said.

She urged people to report issues that pose a danger.
