Ms Heather Gordon, of the Centenary Planning Committee said, “From a humble beginning in an old tin shanty in Malvern, to our current home in Bedfordview which seats about 500 worshippers, God has been gracious to the people of our Eastern suburbs."

The St James Presbyterian Church in Bedfordview celebrated its 100 year milestone on Sunday, March 2.

Ms Heather Gordon, of the Centenary Planning Committee said, “From a humble beginning in an old tin shanty in Malvern, to our current home in Bedfordview which seats about 500 worshippers, God has been gracious to the people of our Eastern suburbs.”

“Beginning with a communion service on March 2 at the St James Church in Oxford Road at 9am and ending with a communion service on June 1, we will celebrate our centenary in order to honour the people who have gone before us and the God we serve,” said Ms Gordon.

In the Sunday opening service, the St James Presbyterian Church was joined by the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa, the Moderator of Egoli, the past Moderator of St James, Reverend David Jones and other dignitaries. There will also be events such as a Sunday school picnic, a formal dinner and a combined choir singing an Easter Cantata. The current Moderator is Reverend Gavin Lock and the members of St James embraced new comers on the day.
