Weekend operation crime clamp down

Members of the Edenvale SAPS, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) and officers from Gautrans arrested five motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol over the weekend of March 1.

The arrests took place during a special operation.

In addition, authorities also made four drug-related arrests.

“One of the suspects arrested was a Nigerian man who was in possession of 11 packets of khat,” said the acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts.

One vehicle was also impounded during the operation.

“When the vehicle was inspected, officers found that the engine numbers appeared to have been tampered with,” said Lt Col Roberts.
