Murder suspect arrested

The victim's uncle entered the shack and asked the two suspects why they were assaulting the man. One of the suspects stabbed the victim's uncle several times.

A man was arrested on February 24 in connection with a murder that took place last year.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said a Mangolongolo Informal Settlement resident alleged he was in his shack on December 14 when an unknown man entered.

“The suspect assaulted him. An accomplice entered and also assaulted the man. One of the suspects hit the victim on the head with a brick. He sustained an open wound,” said Const Mashakane.

The victim’s uncle entered the shack and asked the two suspects why they were assaulting the man. One of the suspects stabbed the victim’s uncle several times.

“The two suspects then fled the scene. An ambulance was called and the man’s uncle was taken to hospital where he later died,” said Const Mashakane.

A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and murder was opened for investigation. On February 24, one of the suspects, aged 22, was arrested and positively linked to the crime committed.

The police are still looking for the second suspect.
