SAPS catch nine for drug offences

“We take drug-related offences seriously and want to send a strong message to users and dealers alike,’ said Lt Col Roberts.

The Edenvale SAPS made nine drug-related arrests last week.

Acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts said four of the arrests involved dagga while the remaining five were for khat and crystal methamphetamine.

“We take drug-related offences seriously and want to send a strong message to users and dealers alike,’ said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that having noticed several comments on Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS’ Facebook page, he felt is necessary to clear up some facts.

“We cannot argue against the law and while we do accept that people have different views on different drugs, we cannot overlook the law,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that all narcotic substances are illegal to use, possess, cultivate and distribute.

“Until such time as the laws are changed, we cannot turn a blind eye. We do not make the laws, we merely enforce them,” said Lt Col Roberts.
