Service delivery unaffected by illegal march

According to the municipality’s brand and communications department, an estimated 2 000 members marched to the Germiston Council offices to deliver a memorandum.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) said it successfully contained the impact of the illegal and unprotected march by members of the South African Municipal Worker Union (SAMWU).

According to the municipality’s brand and communications department, an estimated 2 000 members marched to the Germiston Council offices to deliver a memorandum.

The memorandum was received by city manager, Mr Khaya Ngema.

“The municipality commends the majority of its employees for ensuring that service delivery, as a constitutional imperative, was safe guarded. About 90 percent of Ekurhuleni’s 18 000 employees reported for work,” the department said in a press release.

No damage to council property, intimidation or any other kind of misbehavior was reported.
