Residents complain about noisy establishment

The Yeoville establishment has extended its bar in the form of a gazebo.

An establishment in Rocky Street has residents up in arms due the noise levels and the time of closure of the business.

“The establishment is open until the early hours of the morning and the noise that comes from it is unbelievable. This is a residential area and some people work night shifts. Some people need some peace and quiet,” said the resident, who wished to withhold his identity.

The establishment has extended its bar in the form of a gazebo.

Ward 66 councillor, Clr Carlos Da Rocha, said he has informed the relevant department regarding this issue.

“I have residents desperately calling me throughout the night and weekend, claiming they could not sleep, day and night,” said Clr Da Rocha.

Superintendent Edna Mamonyane, from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said no establishment was allowed stay to open for 24 hours.

“All establishments are given until a certain time to open. We need to find out if they have a license and check what is stipulates. It cannot be correct; traders must respect the residents and the law. We will have a look at it,” said Supt Mamonyane.
