Cansa Shavathon launched

Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) governor and Kensington resident, Mr Manny de Freitas, launched the 2014 Cansa Shavathon recently.

The launch was sponsored by, and held at, the Mamba Strike Force Security company head office.

A Cansa certificate of thanks was handed to the Mamba operations director, Mr Kevin Norman and the marketing head, Dominique Munro. The Mamba managing director, Mr Jonathan Hendricks and the finance director, Ms Jenny O’Connor, were also thanked.

Mr De Freitas said, “Cansa is blessed to have the number of dedicated volunteers it has. These ‘unsung heroes’ give tirelessly to the cause of cancer. This is visibly evident during the Shavathon.”

This year will see people show their solidarity with cancer survivors in the 11th national Cansa Shavathon.

Official Cansa Shavathon events will take place at shopping centres across the country on March 1.

Apart from events at shopping centres and corporates for example, new initiatives have been introduced. This includes the online Shavathon. “Although only 25 people participated online in 2013, collectively they raised an incredible R81 502. We hope to expand on this, this year,” said Mr de Freitas.

The funds raised go to the services that Cansa provides. This includes supporting 7 493 cancer patients through 110 support groups and 2 950 trained care and support volunteers.
