No more says Bedfordview resident

During a life-changing time, Ms Davis became aware of horrific acts of cruelty carried out by people across the globe, from dolphin slaughters in Japan to dog fighting in local suburbs.

Every day millions of animals are tortured in unimaginable ways.

It is for this reason that Bedfordview resident Ms Tricia Davis has established her own non-profit organisation.

No More Suffering (NMS), which was established in 2012, is aimed at raising awareness of the plight of animals.

“I am one of those people who as a child went to weekend braais and enjoyed meat. I never thought about the bigger picture. It never crossed my mind where the meat or drinks were coming from. I never thought about where the cars and petrol came from. The bottom line is I never thought,” she said.

“Things are different now, I am happy to say I am not the same person,” said Ms Davis.

During a life-changing time, Ms Davis became aware of horrific acts of cruelty carried out by people across the globe, from dolphin slaughters in Japan to dog fighting in local suburbs.

“At NMS, we aim to change people’s perception of animal rights through educational, fun and interactive means. Funds are raised through merchandise sales and various fundraisers,” said Ms Davis.

To show just how serious she is about her fight against animal cruelty, last year Ms Davis was one of a few South African Sea Shepard volunteers who went to Japan as observers and cove guardians during the annual slaughter of dolphins, whales and porpoises.

Ms Davis also spends time, and sponsors, six rescue dogs at the Irwin Animls Rescue Centre in Walkerville which rehabilitates abused and abandoned animals.

She regularly visits the Shanti Sanctuary in Bedfordview, where she and others send healing to the animals and people of the world.

In addition to also helping two cats in Cape Town, Ms Davis raises funds which she gives back to animal awareness organisations such as SanParks and Irwins. She is also an executive member of Fur Free South Africa, The Seals of Nam and an onshore volunteer for Sea Shepherd.

“I do not think people actually know just how cruel humans and corporations are. Animals are not just killed, but in many cases brutally tortured. Even our domestic animals like cattle, sheep and pigs are subjected to the most horrendous acts of cruelty, including being locked in small enclosures, overfed to the point of pain and abused by the very people who are supposed to look after them,” said Ms Davis.

Funds are raised through the sale of merchandise such as campaign-oriented NMS clothing, key rings, mouse pads and more.

“We also attend as many events as possible, selling our merchandise and handing out flyers to bring as much publicity as possible to the plight of the animals and we are always looking at new ways in which to help our animals,” said Ms Davis.
