Friends to continue farm clean-up in March

During the second half of last year, the municipality began establishing a new department to manage all the council properties in the metro

The good rainfall this season will have a positive impact on the planting and pruning activities undertaken by the Friends of Horwood’s Farm over the last two years.

“Obviously the weeds, grass and edges will also have benefited and they will need attention,” said member of the Friends, Mrs Sharon Lendrum-Frittelli.

The Friends will meet for the first time this year in March.

“During the second half of last year, the municipality began establishing a new department to manage all the council properties in the metro,” she said.

“The proposal was to have this department fully operational by February and they identified Horwood’s Farm as an area that is in dire need of attention, which they would be attending to,” said Mrs Lendrum-Frittelli.

She added that it is hoped something more concrete will finally be done to save the heritage site.

“In the meantime, we will continue with our efforts to ensure that this public park is properly maintained,” she said.

The Friends of Horwood’s Farm meet on the third Saturday of each month.

Volunteers are asked to bring along gardening equipment and black bags, as well as a hat and water.

Mr Brad Schott is working to get the flea market up and running this year.
