Municipal official arrested for corruption

A municipal official allegedly went to the house and threatened the owner of the property with disconnecting the electricity, as he owes the municipality.

A municipal official has been arrested for corruption in Observatory.

The incident occurred at a house on Grace Street.

“A municipal official allegedly went to the house and threatened the owner of the property with disconnecting the electricity, as he owes the municipality,” said Constable Thabo Malatji of the Yeoville SAPS.

An agreement was reached and the official demanded R20 000. “The official was given R3 000 and promised to return for the balance. When he returned for the balance he was arrested,” said Const Malatji.

The official is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
