Pensioner attacked, robbed

"The three men who did this also took our 14-year-old Jack Russell and told him they would eat her"

A pensioner was attacked and robbed while walking his dog at the Modderfontein Dam on Tuesday.

Mr Brian Gourlie, a resident of the Thornhill Manor Retirement Village, was robbed of his watch, cellphone and keys.

“He told me that the three men who did this also took our 14-year-old Jack Russell and told him they would eat her,” said Mrs Barbara Gourlie, speaking to the NEWS from the doctor’s rooms where her husband was getting treatment.

She said he was knocked out during the incident and that was when they were able to rob him. “That’s when they were able to grab the watch and the car. Our Jack Russell is a black and white female, with a leather collar,” said Mrs Gourlie. She said her husband was able to get to the shops near the dam after the attack, and that was how he was able to get help.

“At the moment it is quite dangerous there, especially for people walking their dogs. There are vagrants who live in the reeds,” said Mrs Gourlie.

A request for comment was sent to Constable Mahamba, the spokesperson for the Sebenza SAPS. No comment was received at the time of going to print.
