Fraudster caught at Eastgate

It was only after the man had left the shop that the cashier realised his signature did not match the one on the card.

A man was arrested for fraud at the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Bedfordview on January 18.

According to the Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabati, “A cashier was on-duty at a when she was approached by a man wanting to buy a watch. She scanned the card and the man signed for the item.”

It was only after the man had left the shop that the cashier realised his signature did not match the one on the card.

The cashier later received a call from the shop’s head office informing her that the card was fraudulent.

Complex security searched the mall for the suspect. When security finally found the man, they apprehended him and found only an empty watch box.

The police were called and the suspect was handed over.

Investigations are continuing.
