Sanral employee faces terrorism charges

A man believed to be a disgruntled employee of Sanral was arrested in connection with recent Anthrax and bomb scares.

It has been reported that an employee of South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) has been arrested in connection a spate of anthrax and bomb scares at the entity’s operations centre in Midrand.

According to Eyewitness News the Hawks confirmed the arrest of a 28-year-old call centre agent.

Reports this morning suggest that the man may have been a disgruntled employee.

The Hawks’s Paul Ramaloko would not reveal any details about the suspect but said his cellular phone was confiscated and is a crucial piece of evidence.

“He is facing charges related to acts of terrorism and we confiscated a cellular phone that we suspect was used to call the centre to alert them about the powder and the bomb threat.”

It is not known whether the man was working alone or whether he had accomplices. The man is expected to appear in court on Friday.

On Monday, Sanral said the livelihood and well-being of innocent people was being put in danger.
