Two men were arrested for kidnapping and rape on January 17.
Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said a child was sent by her grandfather to buy paraffin on January 6.
“The man, who lives in Eloff Street, Johannesburg, alerted police when his grandchild never returned home. She was reported as missing to the police,” said Const Mashakane.
On January 14, the child returned home and told her grandparents she had been kidnapped and raped at the Denver Informal Settlement.
“The matter was reported to the police and she was taken for a medical check-up. On January 17, police officers arrested two suspects, aged 22 and 24, in connection with the incident. They were positively identified by the victim,” said Const Mashakane.
