In a complaint to the NEWS, Bedfordview resident of 40 years Ms Maureen McLeman voiced her unhappiness regarding the state of the Bedfordview Post Office on May 28, 2013.

“In 40 years of living in Bedfordview, the Post Office has never been renovated. I recently spoke to the manager at the Post Office, appealing to her to look at the dirt staining the floors. The windows inside are pasted haphazardly with notices. There are old notices which could be renewed, some of these notices have been stuck up on dirty walls for decades,” said Ms McLeman.

The NEWS followed up on the story to find out if any upgrades or improvements were made following the complaint.

Mr Malusi Fuphe, from Corporate Affairs Communications Witwatersrand said, “The Post Office outlet in Bedfordview was recently renovated to bring it in line with the current Post Office image. This was done as part of the Post Office’s plan to renovate and revamp old post office buildings.”

“The facelift of the Bedfordview outlet includes work done on the flooring, walls and ceilings. The Post Office now has 3 450 postboxes in total, with vacant postboxes available. Residents are welcomed to apply for a post box now,” said Mr Fuphe.

The Bedfordview Post Office is appealing to residents to refrain from littering and vandalism. Enquiries can be sent to the branch manager, Ciska van Loggerenberg, on 011 455-3744.

“The Post Office would like to convey its appreciation of Ms McLeman’s concern about Post Office buildings. Customers with suggestions or feedback are encouraged to call the Post Office customer care line on 0860 111 502,” said Mr Fuphe.
