Ekurhuleni promotes healthy living

Being aware of your own HIV status can help protect you and others.

The awareness, coupled with an active lifestyle, can ensure longevity and good health.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) promoted this message on its World Aids Day marathon which took place at the end of last year, in Katlehong. The EMM, in partnership with Soul City, commemorated the day with a half marathon, 10km and 5km fun run.

The Grand Master winner of the 10km race was 63-year-old, Ms Selli Hallem. She said people should avoid overdoing things like eating and drinking.

“The golden rule of good health is to do everything in moderation,” she said. Ms Hallem encouraged people to take good care of their bodies and prioritise good health throughout their lives.

The theme for this year’s World Aids Day was Get Wise. Get Tested. Get Circumcised.

Men were encouraged to undergo counselling and testing, as well as to visit health care centres to get circumcised.
