Community gets involved

Members of the community have come together with the aim of keeping Frances Street, in Observatory, clean.

The community of Frances Street, under the Sector 3 CPF, have organised themselves to address any issues on Frances Street that affect them.

Cutting the over-grown grass on the pavements is one such issue.

“The street committee agreed last year that we will clean our surroundings. So members living between De Larey and Innes streets took the initiative to cut the grass on the pavement,” said Mr Joseph Dube, who is with the Sector 3 Yeoville Community Police Forum (YCPF).

He said one of the reasons for the initiative was to discourage illegal dumping on the street.

“There was garbage that has been here since last year, even though we had asked the relevant people to do the job. We decided to do it ourselves,” said Mr Dube.

He said the street committee was calling on the parents of children from surrounding schools to discourage them from littering.
