2013 results dedicated to Madiba – MEC

She said Gauteng joined hands with two of its neighbouring provinces to celebrate the best matric results since 1994.

Gauteng Education MEC Barbara Creecy said the results achieved by the class of 2013 were dedicated to former South African President, Nelson Mandela.

She said Gauteng joined hands with two of its neighbouring provinces to celebrate the best matric results since 1994.

“Gauteng has again this year achieved the province’s best results since we introduced universal access to education under President Nelson Mandela and yes, we do have many reasons to celebrate with our pupils and educators,” said MEC Creecy.

“Even more important perhaps, than our 87 percent pass rate for 2013, are the detailed indicators showing the increasing quality of the teaching and learning in our schools within the province,” she said.

Between 2009 and 2013, the Gauteng matric pass rate increased from 71 percent to 87 percent.
