Suspected house robbers caught

The arrested men are believed to be involved in the string of house robberies and burglaries that has gripped the Bedfordview area in recent months.

Four men were arrested in what Bedfordview SAPS believe is a notable victory in the fight against house break ins and burglaries.

The arrest was made after a tip off was received from a Bedfordview resident during the afternoon of January 10. The arrest took place on Van Der Linde Road in Bedfordview.

The arrested men are believed to be involved in the string of house robberies and burglaries that has gripped the Bedfordview area in recent months. According to the Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabati, “An on-duty officer received a call from a concerned resident claiming he had seen people near his premises changing vehicle registration plates. The patrolling officer called for backup and when he arrived at the scene, they found a Volkswagen Caddy parked in a drive way with four men inside it.”

The vehicle had two different registration plates, with an additional registration plate inside the vehicle. The vehicle also had instruments that could be used in house robberies, such as bolt cutters, photographs of several houses in the Bedfordview area. There were also items which could be used to detain people such as cable ties, tape and other materials.

“Of the four arrested, two have been positively identified as being involved with other cases in the area. This is a tremendous success for us because in recent months there has been a serious challenge regarding house robberies in the area. We think this is an accomplishment in the fight against crime. We would like to thank residents for giving us these types of tip-offs because at the end of the day, police officials

cannot succeed without the assistance of the general community. We hope this will encourage other residents in the Bedfordview area to also take their time, look around their area and report anything suspicious,” said Sgt Nhlabati.
