Beware of fraudsters

“They tell you the money has been deposited into your account and proceed to make arrangements to meet with you at the McDonald’s in Bruma to collect the goods you are selling.

People are urged to be aware of fraudsters operating in Bruma.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said a syndicate is targeting people who are selling their belongings on the internet. “They tell you the money has been deposited into your account and proceed to make arrangements to meet with you at the McDonald’s in Bruma to collect the goods you are selling. We have received a number of cases with the same modus operandi,” said Const Mashakane.

Fake smses are sent to the victims to make them believe the payment has been made. They soon discover there is no money deposited into their account.

No arrests have been made yet.
