Revival, rebranding of MUCF on the cards

Speaking about the rebranding of the MUCF, Mr Spadino said names such as For the Love of Malvern have been discussed.

With the lack of interest shown by several community members over the past year, the Malvern United Community Forum (MUCF) is currently discussing revival and rebranding ideas.

Mr Mike Spadino, the chairperson, said he hopes to revive the forum and suburb, increase the MUCF’s membership and rebrand early next year.

“It is admitted that the glory days of Malvern are gone, but we need to restore the suburb. At the moment it may be embarrassing to some to admit that they live in Malvern. The fact that Malvern is in its current state does not do anyone any good. Its run down state means that property values drop and businesses do not consider moving here. We need new businesses and residents,” said Mr Spadino.

He said that for positive change to take place in the suburb, the MUCF needs talkers and doers. “People must be prepared to help when required to do so, not just talk about helping. Residents also need to get to know their neighbours and streets. They need to keep in contact and discuss what can be done to raise standards in Malvern. If people see someone breaking the bylaws they need to tell them to stop or report it to authorities,” said Mr Spadino.

Mr Spadino is also hoping to improve communication between the forum and the public. He aims to establish a database of interested Malvern residents to share information, such as crime alerts and events taking place, with.

Speaking about the rebranding of the MUCF, Mr Spadino said names such as For the Love of Malvern have been discussed. He said people who want to join the association must be aware that there is no salary and that it is apolitical. “At several annual general meetings there were insufficient members present to form a quorum. There were no takers for committee membership apart from myself and another resident. There were no elections for several years. It was decided to form an interim committee recently so that we could put the house in order. A special public meeting will be held in January to formalise our arrangements,” said Mr Spadino.
