SARS places Krejcir assets under curatorship

SARS reportedly acted in terms of the Tax Administration Act, based on the view that Krejcir owed more than R59-million in taxes, penalties and interest.

Businessman and Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir has had his assets placed under the control of a curator.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) confirmed the information following the bombing of his Money Point business at the corner of Bradford and Nicol roads in Bedfordview on November 12.

Media spokesperson for SARS, Mr Adrian Lackay, confirmed reports that SARS had obtained a court order following a preservation order issued by the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

“SARS does not want to make further public statements on the Radovan Krejcir case at this stage,” said Mr Lackay.

SARS reportedly acted in terms of the Tax Administration Act, based on the view that Krejcir owed more than R59-million in taxes, penalties and interest. The court order also granted the seizure of the assets of 15 other entities linked to Krejcir, including his wife and son. This includes the Money Point pawn business in Bedfordview.

Krejcir has until 2 December to challenge the preservation. Meanwhile, Ivan Savov, a business manager for Krejcir, was arrested with an Absa employee on November 14. They are due to appear in court on fraud and money laundering charges, after allegedly scamming a multinational security company out of over R10-million.
