Bedfordview kidnapper court delay

The officer, a detective from Silverton, Pretoria, was expected to apply for bail and is alleged to be instrumental in the house robbery which occurred at a townhouse complex in Talisman Road, Bedfordview, on October 27.

The court appearance of police officer Enoch Motsepe, on charges of the kidnapping and extortion of a Bedfordview resident, was delayed at the Germiston Regional Court on Monday, November 11.

The officer, a detective from Silverton, Pretoria, was expected to apply for bail and is alleged to be instrumental in the house robbery which occurred at a townhouse complex in Talisman Road, Bedfordview, on October 27.

Four armed men in black reflector jackets, claiming to be police officers, held the residents hostage.

“The men stole several valuables and fled the scene with the homeowner as a hostage. They called the victim’s family later that night, demanding a R100 000 ransom for the resident,” said Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabati.

Magistrate Pieter du Plessis said the investigating officer was not at court and they needed to wait for him. Mr Motsepe was arrested after collecting the ransom at a petrol station on the N1 highway in Midrand.

Police accidentally shot and wounded singer Khuli Chana after the police mistakenly identified Mr Chana as one of the perpetrators when he apparently failed to stop at a roadblock the police had set up in an attempt to catch the kidnappers.
