100 pints for Mr Maule

One unit of blood can be used for three people.

Mr Alan Maule recently donated his 100th pint of blood at the Bruma Donor Centre.

“I started donating blood in 1986 when I was just 16, now at 42 I have finally reached my 100th milestone donation,” said Mr Maule.

“Not everyone can be a fireman, policeman or a doctor who saves lives daily, but many people can be heroes just by donating blood four times a year,” he said.

One unit of blood can be used for three people.

As an O positive donor, Mr Maule’s blood can be used for all blood recipients.

“Recently I heard a story of a man who was ill and needed an operation as well as blood products. Thanks to the donations made to the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), this man lives to tell the tale,” he said.

“My dad is one of my blood donor heroes. At 74, he still goes every 56 days and donates his unit of blood,” said Mr Maule.

To add to his dedication for the SANBS, Mr Maule is also a member of the Egoli Committee.
