JMPD joins forces with SAPS

Sergeant Marius Boolsen, also from the JMPD, said officers have been attending to complaints of noise disturbance in areas such as Jules Street in Malvern.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is working closely with the Cleveland SAPS to tackle crimes in the precinct.

Sergeant Desmond De Mackett, from the JMPD, said joint operations are being held to address problematic areas and crimes.

“We are having operations and we are patrolling the precinct. The JMPD is dealing with bylaw contraventions such as illegal hawking, illegal electricity connections and dumping. I urge people to report bylaw contraventions to us,” he said.

Sergeant Marius Boolsen, also from the JMPD, said officers have been attending to complaints of noise disturbance in areas such as Jules Street in Malvern.

“We also addressed complaints of people washing vehicles in the street. We are still trying to rid the Bruma area of windscreen washers and this is an ongoing battle. It was becoming a problem at night. Our night shift officers are also attending to this problem. We issued verbal warnings and admin notices to people who were caught illegally dumping. I urge residents who see these contraventions to send us photographs. This will help in taking action against perpetrators,” he said.

Sgt Boolsen added that the JMPD also attended to complaints of vagrants occupying spaces outside shops in Queen Street.

He said officers have been to the area on numerous occasions to chase vagrants away.

Business owners complained about the vagrants making themselves comfortable on their premises during the night and using the area as a toilet.
