ATM bomber re-arrested in Edenvale

On Thursday night, investigations by the Edenvale SAPS lead to the arrest of the man who was renting the Fifteenth Avenue property.

A man previously arrested in connection with ATM bombings was arrested after a raid at a house in Fifteenth Avenue, Edenvale.

Acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said information was received of suspicious activity at the property.

“When we arrived there was no one at the house. Police officers found a stolen BMW 7 series and a device used to jam tracking signals,” said Lt Col Roberts.

“Officers also found papers for a vehicle rental company, a large number of fake vehicle registration plates and plasma screen televisions,” he said.

It was believed the person running the syndicate would rent cars, change the number plates and use the vehicles in criminal activities.

“While on scene, officers found a pit had been dug in one of the outside rooms of the house. The pit was easily a metre deep. At this stage we are unsure what the pit was intended for and cannot speculate as to why it was dug,” said Lt Col Roberts.

On Thursday night, investigations by the Edenvale SAPS lead to the arrest of the man who was renting the Fifteenth Avenue property.

“This man is a career criminal and has previous convictions for crimes, which include ATM bombings and the possession of explosives. He also has a number of pending cases against his name,” said Lt Col Roberts.

The man is expected to appear in the Germiston Regional Court soon.
