Liquor licence appeal postponed

The appeal for a liquor licence being granted to a liquor outlet in Observatory has been postponed until further notice.

The appeal was supposed to have taken place on October 22. A number of residents expressed their disapproval at possibly having another liquor outlet in the area.

Some residents believe the area is already over-traded. Mr Keith Peacock, the chairperson of the Yeoville Community Police Forum (YCPF), was the objector in the appeal and expressed his disappointment. “While this is unacceptable, there is very little we can do about the matter,” said Mr Peacock.

Mr Joseph Dube, the secretary of the YCPF), was also disappointed. “I do not think those who are in charge of the matter realise the impact this has on the community. If granted, the outlet would be a street away from a school, a major road and close to a park,” said Mr Dube. He said the decision should be made as soon as possible as the community was waiting eagerly to hear the outcome.

“Whoever makes the decision must be considerate of all the factors and the impact this would have on the community,” said Mr Dube.
